Elwood Folse | 88.1 WUWF | Week 9
Before diving into this week’s work, I want to acknowledge something important: I missed writing my Week 8 blog. I was in a serious car accident and, understandably, had to step away from my usual routine. Thankfully, I'm okay now—and this week at WUWF has reminded me exactly why I’m so grateful to be here.
Tuesday kicked off with one of my favorite moments yet: sitting down with Terry Strickland to talk through the storyline structure of our upcoming podcast. The focus is clear—build tension throughout the episodes and slowly unravel mysteries, leaving the audience with answers that are both satisfying and thought-provoking. This is all going to be framed with the 7 gates mythology.
One of the most gripping stories we discussed came from a police report involving a man named Kenneth Miller. According to the report, Miller was Baker Acted after making threats. But when police entered his home, they discovered something out of a horror film: knives hanging from the ceiling and propane-filled tunnels beneath the house. It's the kind of bizarre, unsettling account that makes you question what might actually be lurking beneath the surface—both literally and figuratively.
Then came Thursday, which brought another long but rewarding shift: eight and a half hours of setup and teardown for a night of live music. Three bands performed, but the standout of the evening was The Fox and the Bear—two women and a drummer whose harmonies transported the room straight to the 1910s. Their old-timey vocals were haunting and beautiful, though at times the drummer’s intensity overpowered their instrumental work. Still, their vocal chemistry was undeniable and left a lasting impression.
It feels good to be back—digging into strange stories, unexpected characters, and unforgettable performances. Each week continues to offer something new and valuable, and I’m looking forward to what’s next.
