Elwood Folse | WUWF 88.1 | Week 2

This week marked a turning point in my internship at WUWF 88.1, as I had my first sit-down with Terry Stricklend (referred to here as TS). It was more than just a meeting — it was a glimpse into the heart of a podcast production that’s still under wraps but promises to be something truly compelling.

While I can’t disclose the exact topic (it was shared in confidence), I can say that it’s deeply rooted in historical context and investigative storytelling. TS laid out the blueprint of his vision, which involves poring over dozens of pages of old newspaper clippings, pinpointing key locations, and creating a list of individuals who could offer valuable insights through interviews.

This behind-the-scenes work might sound tedious to some, but for me, it was an exciting dive into the foundational elements of narrative journalism. Outside the station, I spent a good amount of time at home reading through articles and research materials to better understand the subject. The learning curve is steep, but it’s also incredibly rewarding.

Week 2 gave me a real sense of the rigor and depth that go into building a podcast from the ground up. It’s not just about storytelling — it’s about uncovering truths, respecting the past, and asking the right questions.

More to come as the project unfolds.
